BSDHT announces winner of National Student of the Year Award
Anna Seymour has been named National Student of the Year by The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy for her outstanding undergraduate project, which was submitted to the 2018 Oral Health Conference annual poster competition, and also submitted for publication in the 2019 BSDHT Annual Clinical Journal in abridged format.
In support of Anna’s application for the award, her tutor Dr Marina Harris, senior lecturer and periodontology lead at Portsmouth University’s Dental Academy, said: “Anna is a delightful, enthusiastic individual who we at the Academy predict will be a shining light for our profession. Anna is well-respected by staff and students alike and has been a joy to have as firstly a student, and now a valuable peer. Anna has stayed true to her heart and is now providing all her newly found skills and expertise as a dental therapist in the occupation she always longed for. We are all very proud of her.”
Award sponsor Optident said: “Optident is delighted to have supported the 2018 Student of the Year Award. There were some fantastic and well deserving participants this year, it was extremely difficult to pick just one winner. Dental hygiene and therapy is a profession that we have always been actively involved in and we are proud to be a part of this significant accolade.”
Anna said: “The nomination for student of the year has come as a complete shock and I am very honoured to be receiving this award. However, without the support, encouragement and guidance I received from the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy, I don’t think I would be where I am today. So, I gratefully accept this award with a huge thank-you to everyone who has helped me over the last three years.”
