CGT Catapult and MMIP launch apprenticeship programme
The Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult and the Medicine Manufacturing Industry Partnership have developed and launched the first Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products apprenticeship programme to address the shortage of technical, operational and clinical roles required to support and facilitate the rapidly growing UK industry in the development and manufacturing of ATMPs, and their implementation into the healthcare system. Recently announced private and government investment is also increasing manufacturing and roles in the development of cell and gene therapies.
Keith Thompson, CGT Catapult’s CEO said: “I was delighted to see that the first programme of ATMP apprenticeship drew interest from over 200 eager students, I look forward to many more companies taking up this scheme and taking more individuals on board.”
The first phase of the programme has already commenced with 17 apprentices working at eight companies in the UK whilst also studying Applied Biological Sciences at the University of Kent. They will be able to attain a foundation qualification within three years, with the option of an 18 month extension to attain a BSc.
