Brushlink device to be tested on 500 patients

Mydentist is to launch a trial of its Brushlink device on around 500 patients, some of whom have had dental implants or have heavily restored mouths, and some who have gum disease and who are currently seeing a hygienist. The device, which turns all types of toothbrush into a smart toothbrush, whether manual or electric, links a smartphone to an app that coaches users on brushing habits with a view to helping with tooth brushing technique, frequency and duration. The data gathered will be used to give feedback to patients on their oral health at their next appointment.
Group clinical director for Mydentist, Dr Nyree Whitley, said: “Good oral hygiene starts with a consistent brushing technique of every tooth, yet we know that nearly half of UK adults miss some of their teeth. Brushlink is an innovative device and app that engages people with their brushing. It provides tips of where they could improve, potentially helping them to avoid future decay and gum disease. We’re looking forward to distributing the device among our patients and seeing how it works for them.”
