Somalogic and Janssen to partner on clinical samples analysis

Rather than offering its SomaScan platform on a fee-for-service basis, Somalogic is moving to a collaborative stance whereby it can retain access to the data generated by its work. In line with this new model, the company has announced it is to work in collaboration with Janssen Research & Development on protein biomarker research, analysing around 5,000 proteins in each of approximately 15,000 clinical samples using its SomaScan proteomics platform. The aim is to discover and validate protein markers to help predict, diagnose, monitor, and treat disease including inflammatory bowel disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular and metabolic conditions amongst others.
Chief executive officer of Somalogic, Roy Smythe, said: “We are happy that the Janssen research teams are exploring the potential of our protein-measurement platform for their drug discovery and development efforts. We prefer this kind of ‘win-win’ collaboration, where each party shares data and expertise with the other in an effort to achieve the high value goal of more rapidly advancing healthcare.”
