Dog Thefts still on the rise for the 4th Consecutive Year

The latest data published by Direct Line pet insurance shows the number of dogs stolen in 2018 has increased by 4.3% compared to 2017.
French Bulldogs, Jack Russell Terriers and Chihuahuas are the most popular breeds to have been stolen and according to the Metropolitan Police reports, the highest number of stolen dogs has been in West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester locations.
Huskies have seen an 88% decrease in popularity amongst thieves with there only being a report of 2 stolen in 2018 compared to 16 cases in 2017.
The number of dogs being returned to their owners has also seen a slow decline year on year. In 2018, only 17% of dogs were safely returned, which is 25% less than those returned on 2017.
