Only Four out of Five adults regularly visit the dentist.
According to Simply Health’s latest Consumer Oral Health Survey 2019, 82% of adults visit the dentist every two years, with 89% of those on dental payment plans visiting every 6 months.
But, despite the promising numbers, 6% of adults still admit to never visiting the dentists, ith fear and pain being the main reasons for not visiting
Other reasons include:
Not being able to afford to go (35%)
Only go if treatment is needed (31%)
Worried that they will find something that will require further treatment (16%)
Not being able to access and NHS dentist (14%)
They don’t’ think they need to go (11%)
It’s not worth spending the money (14%)
Dr Catherine Rutland, dental spokesperson for Simplyhealth, comments “Whilst the report shows encouraging numbers that the population is visiting their dentist at least every two years, almost one in 5 are missing out on important health checks. By visiting your dentist regularly, they will be able to detect early signs of more serous conditions such as mouth cancer, as well as any other indicators of wider health problems.”
