New Guidelines on how Pharma will work with patients are published

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) have provided pharmaceutical companies with new guidance on how to work “successfully, collaboratively and ethically with patients” and in line with their Code of Practice.
Jill Pearcy, director of ABPI Code Engagement at the ABPI who authored the report, said: “The industry is here to develop medicines that address unmet medical needs. We have worked with patient organisations to produce a sourcebook which includes practical guidance, tips and tools, to support pharmaceutical companies collaborate with patients and patient organisations.”
The six topics covered by the sourcebook include principals and agreements, principles of clarity, integrity, independence and transparency. The code also has strict guidance on the purpose of the meeting, and what can and can’t be included in it.
Research and development is another key point that is included. Jill also added “patient organisations and charities play a key role in representing patient voice due to their direct contact. However agreements need to be in place. Companies must disclose patient organisation details win which they provide financial support to in order to be incline with the code.”
The guide will be launched at the joint ABPI, AMRC and NIHR conference.
