Increase in malaria reports in Scotland

A Health Protection Scotland report has found 52 cases of malaria report in Scotland in 2018, a 4% increase from the previous year.
Cases reported in 2018 have come from unspecified parts in Africa, Asia, India, and Malaysia.
The report claims that the 52 malaria cases in Scotland is African in origin, and “reflects the high prevalence of malaria across the continent,” but the number of cases reported for 2018 was “unremarkable in comparison to recent years.”
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh have advised for those visiting country where malaria is present to get advice on how to reduce the risk of the disease before travelling to help reduced the risk of infection. They also advise that if you suffer any symptoms such as fever, chills, headaches vomiting, muscle pains or diarrhoea either whilst your away or when you come back to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
