Pharmacists’ Defence Association is joined by NAWP

The National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) announced on 6th May 2019 that it would be closing down its operations at the end of 2019. The organisation is now set to continue as a semi-autonomous network within the Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA), and will be open to both members and non-members of the PDA. Anita White, president of the NAWP, said: “The next chapter in NAWP’s history looks bright and should bring new opportunities to women pharmacists.”
Sandra Gidley, president of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, said: “I’m really pleased to see that NAWP has been able to find a way to continue its important work. Women make up around 60% of the pharmacy profession, but we still face many inequalities in our professional lives. We look forward to working closely with NAWP in the future.”
Director of the PDA, Paul Day, said: “Pharmacy is a mainly female profession and we have over 17,000 women pharmacists within our membership. We hope that many of them will choose to join the NAWP network and enhance that influence.”
