The Symphony OCT designed for back and neck conditions.

26th November 2019

The Symphony Occipito-Cervico-Thoracic (OCT), developed for clinical treatment of conditions in the upper back and neck, has been launched by Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices ancillary company DePuy Synthes.

The Symphony OCT contains a wide range of implants and instruments for stabilisation of the spine in patients who are currently having Posterior Cervical Fusion surgery. The purpose of the new product is to improve the fixation in patients with substandard bone quality, and to address a possible cause of screw failure which could lead to revision surgery, while making procedures more straightforward and reducing surgical costs.

In cooperation with the International Spine Study Group, research was conducted in order to develop the Symphony OCT so that it could improve surgeon experience by focusing on alignment, fixation, extensions and targeting. Surgeons have an extensive range of instrumentation that they can choose from, which is all fully compatible with navigation software which can help assist with targeting when examination becomes challenging.

Worldwide President of DePuy Synthes, Naday Tomer, stated: “The Symphony System builds on the deep expertise of DePuy Synthes in treating diseases that affect the cervical spine, and we are excited to elevate our existing portfolio by offering this new enhanced solution for the treatment of these debilitating conditions. This launch represents an incredible global opportunity to bring a differentiated solution to surgeons looking for reduced complexity, streamlined procedures and more flexibility in treatment options for their patients.”
