HPA and Horizon Discovery collaborate on genetic drivers of disease data
The Human Protein Atlas (HPA) has entered into a collaboration with the Horizon Discovery Group, and has chosen the latter’s CRISPR edited knockout cell models to develop the understanding of the genetic drivers of disease. The cell models will be integrated into the HPA’s Cell Atlas program, which focuses on the subcellular localization of proteins in single cells. The purpose of the partnership is to assist users on finding the most accurate tools for their research, by developing the reliability of the Cell Atlas through additional validation data for the HPA’s antibodies.
Chief executive officer of Horizon Discovery, Terry Pizzie, stated: “Having contributed to several thousands of publications in the field of human biology and disease, the HPA is a highly regarded knowledge provider and an expert in the field of molecular mechanisms of the human cell. We are delighted to partner with HPA to provide the robust research tools required to extend their database, and we are proud to be contributing to the expansion of this renowned open access resource for both academia and industry.”
Head of the HPA Cell Atlas program, Professor Emma Lundberg, stated: “Horizon has over a decade of experience in gene editing, and a well established reputation for providing CRISPR edited knockout cell models. We have previously used Horizon’s cell lines in our high throughput imaging processes with great success. Using a validated gene edited cell line where all cell models have the same background will be key to maximizing efficiency and achieving data reproducibility.”
