GP2Pharamacy scheme to become electronic

The GP2Pharmacy scheme was originally introduced in October 2018. Now GP practices will be able to electronically book patients in for community pharmacy consultations in the near future, providing they have a condition which meets the requirements of the locally commissioned minor ailment scheme. The idea for change was raised due to the current booking process being inefficient.

Gateshead and South Tyneside Local Pharmaceutical Committee’s Communications Officer, Sami Hanna stated: “We’re now looking to implement some IT infrastructure to allow appointments to be booked electronically. Where we would like to get to is that the surgery offers the appointment there and then, while the patient is speaking to them, and the surgery will just book it straight into the pharmacy. We’re hoping that once that’s in place, the referral numbers will ramp up quite rapidly.”
