P&G holds virtual meeting on “Responsible Growth in Beauty industry”

10th June 2020

P&G Beauty has just held a virtual meeting with leading global NGOs to discuss the role of the beauty industry “in accelerating progress towards a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future”. The event was co-hosted by Women’s Wear Daily and supported by P&G Beauty CEO Alex Keith and the P&G Responsible Beauty Advisory Council which consists of representatives from Skin Health Alliance, WWF, Kew Gardens, Rainforest Alliance, and the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials.

During the meeting the group agreed that for the beauty industry to be ready for the future and to build business resilience, it must address universal challenges together, not independently, by bringing science and nature together to protect the latter. To this end, P&G Beauty introduced its P&G Responsible Beauty platform, a systems-thinking approach rooted in the connections and interdependence of five guiding principles: Quality & Performance; Safety; Sustainability; Transparency, and Equality & Inclusion and the P&G Responsible Beauty 2030 goals shared during the meeting can be seen here: https://assets.ctfassets.net/oggad6svuzkv/2V5lQLoJLECnr6QMYceDwZ/0f588286eeca67608ab8933576983ff8/P_G_Responsible_Beauty_2030_Goals.pdf

P&G Responsible Beauty intends to share its knowledge to facilitate the beauty industry having a more positive impact on the world and is starting with publicising its comprehensive guide for the safe use of botanicals in beauty products: https://downloads.ctfassets.net/oggad6svuzkv/62gV40Bn4rYVq4agaFQEJ6/99afd591532ce5f4141b985a457b95d8/P_G_BEAUTY_SAFE-USE-OF-BOTANICALS-IN-BEAUTY-PRODUCTS-WHITE-PAPER.pdf

CEO Alex Keith, said: “Making meaningful progress via responsible growth, growth rooted in systems thinking, requires partnership and collaboration. The P&G Responsible Beauty Advisory Council helps to ensure we are bringing external insights and experience into our decision-making, and applying systems thinking to our plans to ensure we consider the interdependencies of one choice on other critical areas. Building business resilience in a way that supports a sustainable world, improves quality of life, respects human rights and protects the environment is possible. For beauty, this means going beyond environmental practices to address the interdependence of all aspects of product development and corporate behaviour; all activities that affect the beauty consumer and the world in which we live.”
