Thermo Fisher Scientific continues to increase its support for production of vaccines and therapeutics
Thermo Fisher Scientific has recently announced that it continues to increase its global capabilities and capacity across its leading pharmaceutical services network to support customers in industry, government and academia, as they accelerate the production and development of COVID-19 therapies, treatments and vaccines. Thermo Fisher Scientific is now supporting more than two hundred of these projects worldwide.
The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, has announced funding to enable the expansion of Thermo Fisher’s sterile injectable manufacturing capability, which can be used to fill a significant volume of vaccine doses. Also, Thermo Fisher supports many vaccine projects entering or undergoing human clinical trials worldwide, offering vital resources and experience that has accelerated preparation and growth by months.
In addition, the company has increased capacity for customers developing existing and new therapies, including anti-viral drugs, to meet the growing demand and allow biopharmaceutical customers to compress patient delivery schedules. Thermo Fisher teams, for example, developed and delivered 12 months worth of medication within a few months, helping to meet an increase in demand from hospitals.
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Marc N. Casper, stated: “Well before the pandemic, we were strategically investing in capacity and capabilities to increase manufacturing and supply chain flexibility for our customers and this has enabled us to rapidly pivot to also support the COVID-19 response. The company is well-positioned to take the lead in supporting the development of COVID-19 treatments and vaccines in addition to delivering critical medicines to patients for treating cancer, genetic diseases and other serious health conditions.”
