Innovate UK has awarded one-point-four million pounds to Ablatus Therapeutics

1st September 2020

Innovate UK has awarded one-point-four million pounds to Ablatus Therapeutics to develop its minimally invasive treatment for soft tissue tumours. The award will support a twenty-four-month project to develop the prototype device into a definitive version for use in patients.

Partnering with Addenbrooke’s Hospital and eg technology, the grant will allow Ablatus to move forward with collecting clinical data required for commercial launch, CE mark, and to reach patients.

The device uses Bimodal Electric Tissue Ablation and offers a practical and cost-effective approach to minimising abnormal tissue without significant surgery. This alternative to current tissue ablation techniques could allow the ablation of earlier untreated tumours while providing greater clinical options and enhancing patient results.

Dr Natalie Hayes, Interim CEO and Chief Medical Officer, Ablatus Therapeutics, stated: “This is an enormous opportunity for Ablatus to build on the important work we have already done to complete development of what will be a game changing treatment for patients with tumours. We are especially pleased to be able to bring this exciting new technology to local patients here in Cambridge, when we start our first clinical study in Addenbrooke’s Hospital.”
