Superdrug has relaunched its at-home COVID-19 antibody testing service

Despite the service being provisionally withdrawn in May 2020, Superdrug has relaunched its at-home COVID-19 antibody testing service, which is accessible at Superdrug Online Doctor for £69.

The antibody testing service, which is used at home by the patient, includes a finger-prick blood sample, sent to Superdrug’s partner laboratory for analysis, and results will be ready within twenty-four hours of the sample reaching the laboratory.

The capillary blood sample is examined using a Roche Elecsys Anti-Sars-CoV-2 test, according to Superdrug, which is the same assay being utilised for antibody analysis by the Department of Health and Social Care in adult social care. The test looks precisely for IgG antibodies.

Healthcare Director, Superdrug, Michael Henry, stated: “Our team has worked hard over the last few months to offer a testing service that follows all of the regulatory guidelines. The decision to relaunch this service was driven by public demand because people want to know whether or not they have already been infected. In fact, our current data highlights that of those who have taken the test in the past ten days, thirteen-point-five per cent have tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies.”
