6 community pharmacy sites in England become the first in the sector to administer the COVID-19 vaccine

15th January 2021

Six community pharmacy sites in England have become the first in the sector to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. The six locations include areas led by Superdrug in Guildford, a Boots in Halifax, and four independent pharmacies, including Appleton Village Pharmacy in Widnes, Andrews Pharmacy in Macclesfield, Woodside Pharmacy in Telford and Cullimore Chemist in Edgware.

The pharmacy sites are required to administer one-thousand vaccinations per week, under NHS England requirements.

NHS England has highlighted that over seventy pharmacy-led sites will open in the coming week.

Managing Director, Boots UK, Seb James, stated: “As we begin vaccinations at our Halifax pharmacy today, we are incredibly proud to support the NHS during this extraordinary time.”

Deputy Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Bruce Warner, stated: “Pharmacy teams have been working incredibly hard throughout the pandemic and as we accelerate the vaccination programme, they are playing a vital role in delivering the life-saving jabs to those in their communities.”
