One in ten adults in the UK are self-conscious of their teeth

24th May 2021

Following the pandemic, one in ten adults in the UK are more self-conscious of their white teeth, according to the Oral Health Foundation.

This comes after the new data reveals that fifty-eight per cent of adults in Britain point towards video calls as a critical reason for changing their smile. In addition, findings indicate that twenty-four per cent of UK adults are more conscious about their teeth alignment, and thirty-three per content are more aware of the colour of their teeth.

Furthermore, fifty-eight per cent of UK adults report face masks having a detrimental effect on forming connections with other people and forming friendships.

Chief Executive, Oral Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter, stated: “Physical interactions have been limited over the last twelve months. For many, these have been replaced with gatherings online. This technology has been an invaluable tool, whether it be facilitating business meetings or allowing grandparents to see their newborn grandchildren for the first time. It has also led to us seeing our own face and smile, far more than we are used to. The colour and shape of our teeth are the first things we tend to notice. Feeling self-conscious is quite normal. What we must remember, however, is that the most important part of the smile is its health.’
