Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine falls prone to further delays related to regulatory filings.

25th May 2021

Novavax has proclaimed that its COVID-19 vaccine will not be submitted to regulators in the UK, US, and Europe until the third quarter of 2021 due to issues with manufacturing specific vaccine components.

Previously, Chief Executive Officer Stanley Erck highlighted that the company was targeting a US Food and Drug Administration emergency approval of its vaccine as early as this month. However, due to recent issues, it has taken longer than expected.

Erck stated: “I don’t believe we’re going to be able to make it by the end of June. Therefore we have to push off the guidance until the third quarter. Obviously, it will be in everybody’s benefit for us to get it done as early in the third quarter as possible, but we’re not putting a date on it right now.”
