ChefsFridge and Rolls-Royce develop ArcticRx

ChefsFridge and Rolls-Royce have teamed up to develop a low-temperature pod for transporting and storing COVID-19 vaccines, called ArcticRx.

The ArcticRx technology is designed to help with the problem of vaccinating patients in practically any region across the world. The long-term ultra low-temperature pod will be used to support a two-dose immunisation schedule to remote, rural, and international areas.

ArcticRx, according to innovation lead Allen Barta and Rolls-Royce emerging technologies, will solve the challenge of preserving significantly low vaccine temperatures long enough for global transport of two doses.

ArcticRx, which Rolls-Royce engineers designed in the company’s LibertyWorks advanced technology unit, Indianapolis, is lightweight, reusable and doesn’t require electricity to maintain stable, shallow temperatures. Furthermore, it can be refilled with more cooling materials.

ChefsFridge co-founder, M. Shane Bivens, stated: “People think the problem is over, but we’re not even close. Initially, we’re looking at immediate global challenges that need to be met. There are so many life-improving medications Pharma left on the shelf because stable cold chain transportation for extended time periods did not previously exist to move product around the globe.”
