New COVID-19 triple antibody test identifies if antibodies originate from infection or vaccine

Attomarker, a British Science Translation developed by scientists at the University of Exeter, created a Covid-19 triple antibody test which can identify if individuals have Covid- 19 antibodies and if they have been transmitted from receiving a vaccination or from the previous contagion. Mantracourt worked alongside Attomarker to develop the testing technology, taking the original plan to the following stages: production, standardisation and testing.

The advanced engineering abilities that Mantracourt possess allowed the company to use Attomarker’s initial design and requirements, then improve it using their expertise in microelectronics and large-scale production.

The medical device has been introduced to clinics in Exeter with plans to expand its reach all over the UK for everyone over the age of 16. Attomarker’s Covid- 19 antibody test can be carried out in just seven minutes.

Mantracourt managing director, Robert Badcock explained: “We started off by building the device for Attomarker, but it quickly became apparent that there were other areas where we could assist to deliver the project such as machine validation testing. We undertook pre-compliance testing and discovered the electronics and communication systems in the device could be improved. We designed a new power distribution module, new USB components and a USB hub, as well as replacing several of the specified cables in the unit. Overall, we managed to improve the kit while reducing around sixty per cent of the cost and also reduce noise, which is important from an EMC point of view.”

He also said, “We took the design concept and helped Attomarker make it more suitable for mass production. Mantracourt is very used to helping our customers find efficiencies and opportunities during the design cycle, which means we can quickly start manufacturing. Ultimately, our involvement in this project helped finalise the device and bring it to market much sooner.”
