Additional funding provided for pharmacy training in the coming years
The Welsh health education organisation has declared that during the years 2022 and 2023, £3 million worth of extra expenditure will be devoted to pharmacy training in Wales, with some of the money being allocated to “independent prescribing courses for the existing workforce.”
The additional cash is part of a £260 million sum set aside by the Welsh government to expand training opportunities for NHS healthcare workers. This has been done in a bid to help with the impact of the pandemic on the healthcare industry and. Some of the professions the training will cover are doctors and nurses.
“The additional investment includes £18m for education and training programmes for healthcare professionals in Wales; £5m extra for medical training places, nearly £8m to support core GP training numbers and a net increase of nearly £3m for pharmacy training across Wales.”
A representative for Health Education and Improvement Wales mentioned that “increased independent prescribing courses for the existing workforce,” and “increased access to advanced and extended practice education” will take place.
