Innovative breathalyser able to detect Covid 19

The Bubbler is a breathalyser test for Covid 19 using viral ribonucleic acid identification to aid in discovery. The device copies RNA into DNA for PCR tests with viral load and type of strain identified. There is no requirement for sample stabilization (making sure results are accurate and unbiased), meaning there is a chance that the test can be conducted from home.

The Bubbler works in a remarkably similar way to the PCR tests we are used to. It has been rumored to be a superior predictor of contagion risk since it catches viral particles in the air. It can also be changed to fit a variety of settings.

According to recent research, Covid 19 has the potential to be found in individuals’ breath, as well as being able to predict issues in the lower respiratory tract.

The researchers also showed how it can be used to identify viruses using airborne samples.

William Fairbrother, lead of the study, said that “Involvement of the lower respiratory tract is often a precursor to severe COVID-19, so there is an argument for a more direct sampling focused on exhaled breath. The Bubbler is more likely to be a better indicator of current infection than nasopharyngeal swabs. Another advantage is the barcoding, which enables high-throughput RNA virus testing at a fraction of the cost of conventional testing. The barcode returns a viral sequence that also supports strain identification, which may prove useful as more information is learned about transmissibility and possible strain-specific treatment decisions.”
