The Smart Evaporator C1 revolutionises Bioremediation Sample Preparation
A novel bioremediation approach for microbial degradation culture medium for evaluation has been released.
The innovative bioremediation technology has been shown to detoxify stubborn or ‘persistent’ organic pollutants (POPs). These are located in soils that are resistant to natural decomposition. It works by introducing degrading microorganisms to carbonized wood.
To improve and understand how to regulate the dynamics of persistent organic pollutants, it was deemed necessary to establish the chemical structure of water-soluble molecules.
Preparing microbial degradation culture media samples has previously been an operation that takes a lot of time. Samples were also frequently debased by water due to water baths used in heating and producing steam- which would then be absorbed by the samples.
As each sample was more concentrated, they became more resistant to flow. This means scientists in doing the research had to watch what was happening to the microbial liquid culture medium samples to minimise the risk of solvent bumping and sample loss.
The Smart Evaporator C1 is more time-efficient than traditional non ‘eco-friendly’ organic solvents. It does not heat samples in a water bath, meaning the risk of this contamination is removed- and the device runs at a regular pressure so solvent bumping is not an issue (samples may be dried without supervision.)
