New 3D-printed Brace 30% Lighter Than Traditional Metal Options

Delsson is working alongside Nanyang Technological University to create the ‘X-Brace’, an orthopaedic brace created via 3D printer to help those suffering from knee difficulties.

The aim is that the product will be accessible to those who need it in the near future.

A revolutionary design that employs light plastic and springs enabled the team to use 3D printing processes and lower the weight of a regular exoskeleton knee brace, which is generally made of metal, by 30%. The weight for the final product is just 720g.

Typically, braces used to aid with joint problems are administered to older individuals to help relieve the strain on the joints in their knee, or help those who have had operations/ procedures done.
