Colleagues Express Condolences for “Inspiration” Jean Turner

Jean Turner, an “inspiring” Registered Veterinary Nurse who had a “hugely significant impact” on the industry, has passed away. She has been described as a “longstanding and prominent” individual by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RSVS) and the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA).

In the 1970s, Jean Turner became a Registered Animal Nursing Auxiliary. 40 years later she received the inaugural Veterinary Nursing Golden Jubilee Award for “enormous contribution,”. The next year (2012) Jean moved on to a new role, starting as the first nurse on the RCVS Knowledge Trustee Board.

Fellow veterinary nurse, Mattew Rendle, expressed that “Jean was a mentor and inspiration to me for most of my career – but most of all, she was my friend. The veterinary nursing profession owes Jean a huge amount of thanks for her amazing work. Jean always supported me with guidance and reassurance, and I will miss her.”

Chair of the Knowledge Board at RCVS, Amanda Boag, said: “Jean was a true pioneer of the veterinary nursing profession, who made a hugely significant impact to practice.”

BVNA also contributed their condolences: “Not only was she a BVNA council member for 16 years, but she was also on the editorial board for the Veterinary Nursing Journal and a trustee of the BVNA Daphne Shipman Benevolent Fund since 1999. Jean was a true representative of veterinary nursing and BVNA. She was well-loved and will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.”
