Advance in healthcare wearables marked by neuromorphic chip

The device, created by a team at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME), intends to alter how health data is processed.
Assistant Professor of Molecular Engineering and materials scientist, Sihong Wang, has stated, “With this work we’ve bridged wearable technology with artificial intelligence and machine learning to create a powerful device which can analyse health data right on our own bodies.”
Typically, a visit to the doctor’s surgery or hospital is required in order to view a detailed profile of an individual’s health. However, Wang said in a statement that in the future, people’s health could be tracked endlessly by wearable electronics that can identify disease before symptoms appear.
The future of healthcare foreseen by Wang includes wearable biosensors to track health indicators, including levels of immune molecules, metabolites, sugar and oxygen in people’s blood. A key aspect of making these sensors possible is their capability to conform to the skin.
Wang’s team aimed to design a wearable chip that integrates seamlessly with the skin and could gather data from several biosensors and draw conclusions about a person’s health.
