Tiffany in Trouble: Blocking Bereaved Parents

Tiffany Jones, the director of communications at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, has upset the bereaved parents of children who died in the hospital after she blocks those who are part of a current maternity review.

After receiving significant levels of backlash from twitter users, Tiffany Jones published an apology on her page before swiftly deleting it. Bereaved parents were left both offended and outraged by the series of events.

One user exclaimed: “Oh dear I wonder why the Communication and Engagement Director @nottmhospitals has felt the need to block ALL the dead-baby mums and dads who’s lives have been destroyed.”

But this goes beyond the individual, with one person calling into question the purpose and use of the account itself, now suggesting it is for official communications. They wrote: “Can someone please tell me how this is a “personal” account? It appears it’s used directly for NUH comms.”
The apology published by Ms Jones read as follows: “I apologise wholeheartedly for the upset my decision to block some individuals from my personal Twitter account may unintentionally caused.”

The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust have subsequently published a statement where they “offer our sincere apologies for the upset caused. We know the devastation caused to families when we have not delivered the best care in our maternity service and we are committed to engaging with and listening to families in order to make the necessary improvements.”
Tiffany Jones has been suspended.
