GSK Puts Females at the Forefront of the Firm

As the pharmaceutical company concentrates on its central pharmaceutical division, GSK has selected Julie Brown as the first female CFO, following Iain Mackay.

This management reshuffle means GSK will have exclusively female top management, with Emma Walmsley serving as Chief Executive.

Julie Brown previously worked with Burberry and has a wealth of expertise in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. She will leave her current role in April and start her new position in May of next year. She will earn a basic yearly salary of £900,000.

Following nearly four years at the established pharma firm as finance director and eight years as group finance director at HSBC, Iain Mackay will retire.

Investment director at JM Finn, Lucy Coutts, expressed that “It is particularly pleasing seeing a global biopharma company, a sector dominated by men, led by two women.”

Emma Walmsley commented that “Julie is a highly experienced CFO with a tremendous understanding of the biopharma sector. We also share a strong passion for people development, diversity, inclusion and sustainability.”

GSK experienced a great second-quarter performance this year, increasing its expected success for 2022.
