UK Science and Technology Set to Receive £103m

In a bid to uphold our position as a leader in Science and Technology, the government has invested £103 million to increase and improve research capabilities in the UK. The financial input from UKRI should mean that academics and scientists across the UK will be able to utilise cutting-edge facilities and technology.

The University of Nottingham, King’s College London, and The University of Glasgow are just a few of the establishments that stand to gain from the move.

Of the £150 million set aside for reducing the effects of the UK’s postponed involvement with Horizon Europe, £79 million will be used for this initiative.

The other £23 million has been sourced from the £370 million fund created to support UK research and technology.

Secretary of Science and Technology, Chloe Smith, stated: “Our world-class science and technology sectors are the engine room for growth in the UK economy.”

Esteemed member of the UKRI governmental organisation, Professor Christopher Smith, explained how “this crucial support for UK research infrastructure” will mean “our research and innovation communities can carry on with their work notwithstanding the delay to association with Horizon Europe.”

“This support will ensure the UK is an attractive place for scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs to live, work and innovate.”
