Chris Tovey is New CEO for Destiny Pharma

Chris Tovey became Destiny Pharma’s new Chief Executive Officer at the start of this month, succeeding Dr Debra Barker, who will go back to her role as a non-executive director. Destiny Pharma is a clinical stage innovative biotechnology business dedicated to research and production of pharmaceuticals that could avert serious and potentially fatal infections.

The business also reports that chairman Nick Rodgers is leaving in order to focus on other endeavours.

Chris is a Senior Pharmaceutical Executive with extensive expertise. He held the positions of Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, and board director of Europe at GW Pharma before it was bought out, and last served in a similar position at Jazz Pharmaceuticals.

Before Jazz Pharma purchased GW for $7.2bn Chris supervised the business’ substantial expansion and success. Before he joined GW, Chris had a number of top commercial positions in the sector, including Vice President and Head of Global Sales and Marketing at UCB Pharma and almost two decades in senior sales positions at GlaxoSmithKline.

The new Chief Executive Officer, Chris Tovey, expressed: “there is an incredibly exciting opportunity to progress a highly innovative product pipeline” and “seeking new approaches to treat and prevent infectious diseases. Central will be XF-73 which following on from excellent Phase 2b clinical data, and a positive endorsement from our Scientific Advisory Board, is Phase 3 ready for both US and European development.”

Nick Rodgers, the company’s previous Chairman, explained that “In recent years, we have significantly advanced the clinical pipeline, with the acquisition and subsequent partnering of NTCD-M3 with Sebela, and the establishment of a robust $2bn plus market opportunity in the US with XF-73.”

“With Chris’s appointment agreed, it is the correct time for me to step back from the Company, and I wish Chris and the team every success as Destiny continues on its growth journey.”
