Merk & BenevolentAI Partner for AI in Biopharma

A strategic partnership has been formed between Merck, a renowned scientific and technology business based in Germany, and BenevolentAI, a pioneer in the development of sophisticated AI that speeds up biopharma discovery.

To find and develop novel compounds through Hit Identification to pre-clinical stage, Merck will be able to take advantage of BenevolentAI’s unique AI platform features and acquire a knowledgeable team of drug discovery scientists.

In order to provide Merck with small molecule therapeutic development candidates that are suitable for subsequent testing, BenevolentAI will use its arsenal of AI chemistry design tools in conjunction with its full-service wet lab facilities in Cambridge.

BenevolentAI will be entitled for instalments of up to $594 million under the provisions of the contract, including an initial multimillion dollar payment at signing and further payments upon achievement of discovery, development, and commercial objectives. On total sales of marketed items, tier royalties will also be due.
