Prosecutors weighing up TeGenero situation
German prosecutors are undecided whether to launch an official investigation into TeGenero, the company behind last week’s disastrous clinical drug trial.
The trial, which left six men in intensive care, was carried out on British volunteers, but it is German prosecutors that are weighing up the official proceedings, according to Reuters.
“We are investigating whether we need to start preliminary proceedings,” a spokesman for prosecutors told Reuters.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that pre-clinical trials on monkeys, carried out before the devastating experiments on humans, also yielded worrying results.
The news was confirmed by TeGenero on the company website, where it is reported that “of these [20 monkeys tested] two experienced a transient increase in size of lymph nodes. This is possible due to the way in which TGN1412 works on the immune system”.
However, the company has said that the increase in the size of the lymph nodes is “completely different” from the symptoms seen in the clinical trial volunteers.
