Eli Lilly has unveiled a potential new site in Alzey Germany, for injection production, which is set to cost $2.5bn.

In addition to broadening the Lillys worldwide reach to produce skin-implanted treatments, the new site will also help meet the increasing volume of Eli Lilly’s pharmaceuticals.

This expansion will open jobs to around one thousand people, ranging from engineers to scientists, to deliver innovative devices and equipment.

The head of Eli Lillys manufacturing operations, Edgardo Hernandez, commented, “This state-of-the-art parenteral site with the latest technology will enable us to continue to deliver medicines with safety first and quality always around the world”

The corporation will run six production facilities across Europe after the acquisition of the site in Alzey.

Dr Karl Lauterbach, Federal health minister stated the purchase “shows good innovative products can be reliably developed and produced in Germany. But we will continue to improve the framework conditions for research and production. This will ensure that patients have rapid access to new treatment options and make us more independent from fragile supply chains,”

Eli Lilly is hopeful that the new location will be running in early 2027, however this is conditional on authorizations from the surrounding area of Alzey.
