Cardinal Health buys specialist medical product manufacturer
Cardinal Health has bought Denver Biomedical, a specialist medical equipment firm that manufactures products used for fluid drainage primarily in terminally-ill cancer patients.
Denver Biomedical produces the Pleurx pleural catheter system, the Denver ascites shunt and the Denver pleural effusion shunt. It says it was the first company to have an indwelling catheter for drainage of pleural and ascitic fluids approved by the FDA and it has been operating since 1969.
Tom Daulton, vice-president and general manager of special procedures at Cardinal Health, said: “Well recognized by clinicians, Denver Biomedical’s products are a great fit with our existing business. These products significantly enhance patient quality of life and reduce hospital costs.”
The president of Denver Biomedical, Bonnie Vivian, said: “We take great pride in our products, support to the medical community and our passion for service excellence. After careful consideration, we selected Cardinal Health as a partner that could successfully continue this tradition.”
“We are looking forward to accelerating our growth as part of Cardinal Health,” she concluded.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cardinal Health employs over 55,000 employees worldwide and it has a site based in Swindon, Wiltshire, where it employs approximately 600 staff.
