Sanofi-aventis to present Eloxatin and Taxotere data
Sanofi-aventis stated earlier this week that “key study results” on chemotherapeutic agents Eloxatin (oxalipliatin injection) and Taxtere (decetaxel) Injection Concentrate will be presented at the American Society if Clinical Oncology, which is due to take place between June 2nd and 6th.
Some 430 abstracts will be presented on the two agents and the manufacturer states that within these, there are significant studies involving Eloxatin-based regiments for those suffering from pancreatic cancer and gastric cancer, and key studies involving Taxotere will cover its use in the treatment of lung cancer, breast cancer and head and neck cancer.
Eloxatin originally received approval in France for use in second-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer in April 1996 and was approved for first-line treatment of advanced colorectal cancer across Europe in 1999.
It also gained US approval for the first-line treatment of advanced carcinoma of the colon or rectum in 2004 when used in conjunction with infusional 5-FU/LV and for use against stage III colon cancer. However, it has not received approval to be used on pancreatic cancer or stomach cancer.
Taxotere has received approval in both Europe and the US for its use against gastric cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and breast cancer.
At a recent shareholders meeting, Sanofi-aventis announced that its dividends would be 26.7 per cent higher than in the previous year.
