Siemens Medical “breaks all records” with total imaging matrix MRI

8th June 2006

Siemens Medical has announced it has installed 1,000 total imaging matrix (Tim) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners throughout the world.

In March, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, became the recipient of the 1,000th Tim-powered MRI scanner.

Tim technology utilises 32 radio frequency channels and up to 102, whole-of-body coil elements that allows high-resolution images of up to 205 centimetres for large anatomical scans.

Nancy Gillen, vice president of Siemens Medical’s MRI division, said: “In a little more than two short years, Siemens Tim technology has gone from the new technology on the block to the gold standard in MRI with 1,000 installations worldwide.”

“Tim-powered applications have brought medical imaging to the next level by allowing doctors to detect and diagnose disease states faster, offer more treatment options, and increase workflow and efficiency,” she added.

Siemens, the parent company of Siemens Medical, employs 21,222 staff in the UK, including 5,000 manufacturing staff. Siemens Medical comprises three business areas: medical solutions, magnet technology and hearing instruments.
