Lunbeck signs new drug discovery contract

Lundbeck has signed a new drug discovery contract with Sareum, it was announced today.

The second collaborative agreement is in order to provide protein structure “determination capabilities” to speed up drug discovery research at Lundbeck. The agreement will run for 12 months and will see Sareum to improve the treatment of central nervous system diseases.

Lundbeck’s agreement will lead to developing new protein expression, purification and structure determinations, with Sareum receiving research fees for successive milestone payments ? though financial terms are yet to be disclosed.

Dr. Klaus Peter B?ges?, Lundbeck’s Vice President of Research DK said: “Structure-based drug design is an important part of a modern drug discovery strategy, and we look forward to using this broadened collaboration with Sareum to enhance the success of our drug discovery process. The partnership also further illustrates Lundbeck’s commitment to accelerating the discovery of novel therapies for patients suffering from neurological and psychiatric diseases.”

Lundcek is a research-based company specialising in developing drugs for the treatment of central nervous system diseases such as depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

It was recently reported that operating profits for the company slipped due to sales pressures on its antidepressant Lexapro. This had been expected since sales of the active pharmaceutical agent in Lexapro had been in decline, though the strong growth has been witnessed in the first half of the year pointing to future growth.
