Abbott reports Humira sales ‘driving strong results’
Health-care products and services provider Cardinal Health has announced that it will acquire Care Fusion, a supplier of bedside patient identification technology.
Care Fusion’s wireless, barcode-enabled solution allows hospital clinicians to scan a barcode placed on a wristband worn by the patient, ensuring their correct identification before the administering of medication or other procedures.
Dwight Winstead, group president of clinical technologies and services for Cardinal Health, said: “Cardinal Health can now track all forms of medicine from the moment they arrive at the hospital until they are administered to patients.”
He added that, as well as improving patient safety, that the acquisition of Care Fusion supported the company’s health care solutions and assisted in its strategy of data-capture as a by product of its services.
Last month, Cardinal Health announced the signing of a feasibility agreement with Wyeth for the development of Cardinal Health gene product expression cell line engineering technology.
