Philips highlights advancements in imaging collaboration

Philips has highlighted some of the advancements made in a collaboration with Calypso Medical, an imaging company.

The companies have been designing enhancements to treatment planning systems for oncology purposes, offering three-dimensional images in real time.

Eric R Meier, Calypso Medical’s president and chief executive officer, said that plans were being made to deliver “truly adaptive” radiation therapy techniques through the collaboration.

Furthermore, new data from a clinical study confirmed the ability of the Calypso 4D Localisation System to locate a prostate before treatment, allowing accurate therapy and monitoring.

Keith Tipton, general manager of Philips’ radiation oncology, remarked: “That Calypso Medical technology can provide objective knowledge to manage motion for prostate therapy is significant.”

“Static imaging, regardless of when it’s performed, is simply not enough,” he added.

Last month, Philips unveiled new ultrasound technologies that allow four-dimensional scanning with intelligent slicing abilities.

One of the systems, dubbed iSlice, allows greater consistency and the ability to view data that would not otherwise be available to clinicians.
