Cook Medical announces approval for Thoracic Z-Trak

Cook Medical has announced that its new Z-Track Introduction System for its Zenith TX 2 TAA endovascular stent graft has received CE marking. The system provides maneuverability for Cook’s thoracic aneurysm stent graft with accurate device orientation.

The system uses a hydrophilic-coated kink-resistant Cook Flexor sheath with a super-elastic alloy inner cannula that provides enhanced trackability and flexibility.

Tradtionally, thoracic aortic aneurisms were treated through invasive surgical repair, while endovadcular repair can result in speedier recovery with fewer complications.

Barry Thomas, global leader of the endovascular therapy products division of Cook Medical, said: “We’ve designed a delivery system for a thoracic stent graft that rivals even the most elegantly trackable devices used in coronary angioplasty.”

He added that in many cases, difficulties are experienced in thoracic aortic aneurysm treatment is placing the device, with the Z-Trak system permitting more simple negotiation of the aortic arch for delivery of the stent graft to the required position.

In April, Cook announced the 1,000th successful implant of its Zenith fenestrated endograft for use in endovascular aortic repair.

The endograft features tailored openings, offering full or semi circular fenestrations custom designed for the treatment of each individual patient.
