Cardinal Health launches AirLife Infant nCPAP system

Cardinal Health has this week announced the launch of a new infant respiratory system, the AirLife Infant nCPAP (nasal continuous positive airway pressure) System, designed to assist infants in breathing. The system aims to prevent necrosis and increase patient comfort while maximising the advantages of respiratory therapy.

The system operates without ventilators tracheal tubes and assists babies in establishing functional residual capacity required for normal respiratory function. Cardinal Health stated that it expected those treated with the system do be less likely to contract asthma and other diseases common in premature babies.

Hank Struik, vice president and general manager of respiratory care at Cardinal Health, said: “Our respiratory care team worked with more than 250 industry-leading neonatologists, respiratory therapists and clinical advisory board members to develop this comprehensive solution for infant nCPAP.”

He added that all the components in the respiratory system had been especially designed for best performance, reliability, ease of use for clinicians and patient comfort.

Also this week, the company announced that it had signed an agreement with Fisher & Paykel Healthcare to distribute its single-use non-invasive high flow oxygen therapy products and ventilation masks, including full-face and nasal masks, in the US.
