Bausch and Lomb: Better vision with PureVision Toric lenses

Bausch & Lomb has announced the results of a clinical evaluation of 107 patients for visual acuity.

In the study, patients already fit with Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism (AAA) lenses were refit with Pure Vision Toric lenses. Upon refitting, the number of patients exhibiting 20/20 visual acuity or better rose from 74.5 per cent to 82.5 per cent.

Additionally, the percentage of AAA lenses fully centred on the eye was 77.5 per cent, compared to 88 per cent at dispensing and 90.6 per cent on the second visit for PureVision Toric lenses.

The company states that PureVision Toric contact lenses have an aspheric front surface and a toric back surface in addition to “unique” stabilisation architecture to improve stability and vision.

Bill Reindel, director of scientific and clinical affairs, said: “Toric silicone hydrogel lenses provide practitioners the opportunity to upgrade conventional toric lens wearers to newer materials and design technologies.”

He added that the improved visual acuity exhibited by the trial showed “unique characteristics” of material and optical design of the PureVision Toric lenses when compared to standard toric lenses.

Earlier this month, the company expanded the range of its PureVision Toric lenses, which now includes plus powers and higher cylinder to better fit patients with astigmatism.
