Ark Therapeutics wins product innovations award

Ark Therapeutics has announced this week that its Kerraboot wound healing accelerant has won the Frost & Sullivan’s 2006 award for product innovation. The company received the award for its development and introduction of the dual-action product.

Kerraboot functions by facilitating the drainage and isolation of exudates from the site of a wound, while simultaneously providing a warm and moist healing environment. The product is especially effective in the lower limbs.

The dressing takes an average of five minutes to change, half that of traditional dressings, while its easy-application feature enables patients to change their dressings independently, the company reports.

Paul Higham, director of commercial development at Ark, commented that the company was “delighted” to receive the award.

“Frost & Sullivan is a well-respected organisation which has independently recognised the innovative nature of Kerraboot and the contribution it can make to patients with lower-limb wounds,” he said.

He added that the company was making “good progress” in its dealings with primary care trusts in the UK and is gaining increasing formulary inclusions.

Last week, Ark reported that it had held a “positive” end of phase II meeting with the Food and Drug Administration in the US regarding its gene therapy Trinam.

Trinam is being investigated as a treatment to prevent blockages in blood vessels of patients who have had vascular graft surgery treated by kidney dialysis.
