Schering-Plough product receives ease-of-use award

1st March 2007

Schering-Plough has announced that its Nasonex (mometasone furoate monohydragte) nasal spray 50 mcg delivery product has been awarded an ease-of-use commendation by the Arthritis Foundation.

The spray has been granted the award in recognition of the accessibility of the spray for sufferers of arthritis, with the decision to grant the award made following tests in an independent laboratory.

Nasonex is a once-daily prescription intranasal corticosteroid used to prevent seasonal nasal allergy symptoms.

The ease-of-use commendation programme was founded by the Arthritis Foundation in an attempt to encourage the manufacture of products that can be used by those affected by arthritis.

Mary Norman, group vice-president of strategic marketing alliances at the Arthritis Foundation, said: “Products that receive the ease-of-use commendation have been shown to make everyday tasks, like administering a medication, easy and comfortable for people with arthritis.”

Schering-Plough’s own patient survey found that 98 per cent of Nasonex users found the product easy to use, with reports that the applicator is simple to pump and press.

In December 2005, Schering-Plough announced the publication of a new study in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology showing the efficacy of a once or twice-daily dose of Nasonex as a treatment for nasal polyps.
