Boehringer Ingelheim sales team ranks best

7th March 2007

Pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim has come out top in a poll ranking sales representatives.

According to the survey of primary care doctors conducted by TargetRx, the sales team at the privately-held German firm is the most knowledgeable about their product range and has good quality marketing material.

The study also revealed that the sales division at healthcare firm Bristol Myers-Squibb is the most effective in creating brand identity and product awareness when it comes to targeting specialists.

Mark Vincent, spokesman for Boehringer Ingelheim, said that a key element of his company’s strategy is to ensure sales staff are sensitive about issues such as time constraints when working with doctors and have a sound knowledge of the products they are marketing as well as the illnesses they are designed to treat.

TargetRx interviewed in excess of 20,000 physicians in order to compile the rankings and questioned respondents on components such as the quality of marketing material, efficiency and effectiveness levels of sales pitches, the representatives’ knowledge of their products and understanding of relevant diseases.

In other news at Boehringer, the US food and drug administration recently announced that its antidepressant therapy Cymbalta is now approved for treating generalised anxiety disorder.
