Novo Nordisk hosts visit from Al Gore

Novo Nordisk has announced that the firm’s headquarters in Bagsvaerd, Denmark, recently received a visit from former vice-president of the US, Al Gore.

The maker of the Oscar-winning documentary regarding climate change – An Inconvenient Truth – met with senior management staff and other employees at the firm to learn of the company’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

Discussions were held on the role of corporations and individuals in the reduction of human-induced climate changed, with the former presidential candidate meeting with those workers charged with lowering emissions emanating from Novo Nordisk.

Lise Kingo, executive vice president at the firm with responsibility for the company’s climate strategy, said: “We believe that our drive to reduce CO2 emissions is an obligation and also an opportunity to be better prepared for a carbon-constrained future.”

She added such moves would also help to make the firm less vulnerable to changes in energy prices.

In January 2006, the company signed an agreement with WWF to make the firm the first company in Denmark and the tenth worldwide to be part of the organisation’s Climate Savers Programme.

Novo Nordisk announced plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by ten per cent from its 2004 figure by 2014.
