Eli Lilly AACR collaboration presents cancer care awards

A partnership between Eli Lilly and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has announced the presentation of two awards designed to recognise the value of innovation and interdisciplinary teamwork in progressing from discoveries in research and development towards use in clinical practice.

The Team Science Award was presented to a 16-strong team from the University of Michigan and Harvard University – Brigham and Women’s Hospital for their collaborative efforts in the discovery of a unique transformation occurring in the pathogenesis of prostate cancers.

GHA Clowes Memorial Award recognised Michael Kastan, director of the cancer centre at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, for his leadership efforts in the study of cellular responses in cases of DNA damage.

Richard Gaynor, vice-president of cancer research and global oncology platform leader at the firm, said: “At Lilly, we are collaborating with researchers around the world to identify the best ways to deliver the right medication at the right dose and the right time for patients.”

He added that this work would result in benefits for patients and the medical community with a broader range of robust treatment options for cancer.

At the recent annual meeting of the AACR, Lilly announced that it shared the dedication of the association to the use of novel research methods to drive the fight against the condition.
