Stiefel Laboratories opens facility at Research Triangle Park

Stiefel Laboratories has this week announced the opening of a 155,000 sq ft international research and development site in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

The facility, formerly owned by Eli Lilly, will be used as a base for the company’s research and development efforts for over-the-counter and prescription skincare medication, with the site hosting up to 250 employees.

With over $50 million (25.1 million pounds) to be invested in the plant over the next five years, it will also enable the development of orally-administered and topical products based on the VersaFoam technology recently acquired by the firm.

Todd Stiefel, vice-president of global strategy at the firm, said: “This is an extraordinary day for Steifel Laboratories and for everyone who works on behalf of this company, not only here in the US, but also around the globe.”

He added that the facility would be the key site for the company’s research and development efforts worldwide, with the company “thrilled” to become part of the scientific and business community at Research Triangle Park.

Earlier this week, Steifel Laboratories announced the execution of a number of structural changes at the firm, including the creation of a global marketing team and combining of its sales and marketing teams in the US.
