Boston Scientific appoints new chief financial officer

Boston Scientific has announced the appointment of Sam Leno as executive vice-president of finance and information systems and chief financial officer of the company, with Mr Leno replacing Larry Best in the position.

Mr Best has announced plans to retire from the firm as of July 6th 2007 to allow him to dedicate his time to private investment in life sciences, with Mr Leno to join Boston Scientific on 5th June.

Currently chief financial officer and executive vice-president of finance and corporate services at Zimmer Holdings, Mr Leno has previously held the position of chief financial officer at Arrow Electronics and Corporate Express, while also holding a number of roles at Baxter International and American Hospital Supply from 1971 to 1994.

Pete Nicholas, chairman and co-founder of Boston Scientific, said: “I would like to welcome Sam, who is a seasoned business executive with a wealth of experience in the healthcare industry, including experience with acquisition integration, financing and capital markets.”

He added that the company is fortunate to have appointed an employee in possession of a wide range of abilities in this field.

In March 2007, Boston Scientific announced the introduction to a number of reforms to its corporate governance procedures, including the introduction of a majority voting standard for the election of directors.
